Most people that fought in the civil war had no choice but to fight, that was a brutal war, more americans died in the civil war that any other war put together, because both side where american. First of all, he gets all the money from any of the bands songs because he wrote the lyrics, secondly, he added his background vocals to the songs from this concert becasue they had turned off his mic. Also, he mixed his guitar way to loud in the mix of the movie and cut out alot of Richard Manuels vocals and notice you don't see Hudson or Manuel in this entire sing. He's a big jerk-off

The South suffered tremendously in that war and Southerners should be proud of their heritage, in spite of the fact that its openly bashed and its symbols and expression repressed by the insidious menace of political correctness and cultural bigotry.

I'd guess that Robertson wrote since he wrote most of thier songs. He is a talented song writer, talented enough to make you think he is a confederate soldier lamenting about the war. His nationality has nothing to do with it and he did not intend to inject Canada into the song otherwise he would have wrote the song about Red Rivr
