transcript: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/01/28/politics/main3762263.shtml "I'm Kathleen Sebelius, Governor of the State of Kansas. And I am grateful for the opportunity to speak with you tonight. I'm a Democrat, but tonight, it really doesn't matter whether you think of yourself as a Democrat or a Republican or an Independent. Or none of the above. Instead, the fact you're tuning in this evening tells me each of you is, above all, an American, first. You are mothers, and fathers. Grandparents and grandchildren. Working people and business-owners. Americans, all. And the American people - folks like you and me - are not nearly as divided as our rancorous politics might suggest. [...] We are Americans sharing a belief in something greater than ourselves, a nation coming together to meet challenges and find solutions; to share sacrifices and share prosperity; and focus, once again, not only on the individual good but on the common good. On behalf of the new American majority - the majority of elected officials at the national, state and local level, and the majority of Americans - we ask you, Mr. President, to join us. We are ready to work together, to be the America we have been - and can be once again. Thank you for listening. God bless and sleep well. And in the morning, let's get to work." * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * http://cuzimjustabill.com/ * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

May 2006 The West's demand for Cassiterite is fuelling the killings in Congo. Militias rely on slave labour to extract the ore, forcing locals to work in sub-human conditions. "Once you get down there, there's no air", describes one worker. "The rocks often bury us and you have to crawl through the tiny hole, using your fingers to dig." Labourers like him often go unpaid. They're forced to work at gunpoint by militias operating outside the control of the government. "Different armed groups do what they want with the population", laments minister Buta Muiso. But British businessman Ketankumar Kotecha sees nothing wrong in buying casiterite from the militias. "If I didn't do it, someone else would. I am not here as some kind of moral saviour."

Feb 2007 Days before Senkwekwe and three other mountain gorillas were killed, journalist Paul Raffaele filmed Senkwekwe in the wild. He reports on the battle to save the world's mountain gorillas. In the mountains of the DRC, silverback gorilla Senkwekwe watches over his young family. A few weeks later, he was dead, alongside three females in his harem. It was the worst gorilla massacre in 25 years. "There's a threat to the gorillas from poaching, for the exotic pet trade", explains ranger Rob Muir. Gorillas now share their habitat with rebel militias, driven into the hills by UN peacekeepers. These rebels could have been responsible for the killing of another two mountain gorillas earlier. "They were stripped of all their flesh", describes Muir.

Michelle Obama, wife of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, gave the keynote address at the first day of the 2008 Democratic National Convention. After her comments, Sen. Obama (D-IL) greeted the audience via remote camera.

Former President Bill Clinton laid to rest any speculation Wednesday night that he would not enthusiastically back Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois for president by making a forceful call for voters to elect Obama because "Barack Obama is ready to lead America and restore American leadership in the world." "I am here first to support Barack Obama," Clinton said, opening his address in characteristic fashion by deviating from the prepared text aides distributed to reporters ahead of time. On the night the Democratic National Convention made Obama the first African-American ever nominated by a major party, Clinton acknowledged that his "preferred candidate" — his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York — had fallen short. But, he said, "like her, I want all of you to support Barack Obama in November."
